Grammy-Nominated Violinist Marks Second Beethoven Concerto Performance of the Season with the Merida Trio — April 25, 2026 — Elmhurst, Illinois
ELMHURST, IL —
Grammy-nominated violinist Charlene Kluegel joined the Merida Trio — alongside pianist Katherine Petersen and cellist Jean Hatmaker — for a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Triple Concerto in C Major, Op. 56 with the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra under Music Director Stephen Alltop on April 25, 2026 at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church in Elmhurst, Illinois.
The concert, titled The Triple and the Titan, also featured Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D Major (“Titan”), bringing the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra’s 2025/2026 season to a close.
The performance marked Kluegel’s second appearance as a Beethoven concerto soloist this season — a distinction that reflects the sustained demand for her artistry among leading Chicago-area ensembles. Beethoven’s Triple Concerto is among the most rarely programmed works in the orchestral canon, occupying a singular space between chamber intimacy and concerto grandeur. For audiences, it offered an uncommon opportunity to hear three soloists performing as an ensemble within the full orchestra — the “king of concertos” at its most collaborative and compelling.
